Sample Procedures

Below are some sample procedures illustrating ways of documenting several typical process flows. These are for illustration purposes only. Some customization will be necessary for use in a specific organization.

These procedures are all written at a high level. An example of a more detailed procedure can be found under Sample Work Instruction.

Sample Procedure Incorporating a Delay PDF A given process may occur over days, weeks, or even months due to necessary delays in the process. This procedure illustrates a process in which some amount of time is expected to pass between consecutive steps.

Sample Procedure Incorporating a Partially Automated Process PDF When a process includes some automation, such as a software-based or mechanical system, it is important to highlight the actions the owner of the process must take in order to initiate the automated steps. This procedure illustrates a process with several automated steps.

Sample Procedure Incorporating Multiple Decision Points PDF Often, a process can occur several different ways depending on some input or the result of one of the actions in the process. This procedure illustrates a process with several decision points that determine which actions are performed to complete the process.
